Hikaru was excited. No, scratch that, he was beyond excited. Mr. Hitachiin had found the Carbon Grey series only a few months ago, and already he was hooked on the amazing action. This comic book series was not like the others, the leading character was, in fact, a super kick-ass noble female. The third installment of this series has come out today, and Hikaru was determined to get his hands on it as soon as possible. This young man had left early from school just so he could make it before the shop closes at 9, and looking at his watch he soon realized perhaps he had left a tiny bit too soon, for it was only 4:30 and he was almost there.
Well, no matter, he wanted to get out of his class anyways, it was a Friday and they were revising a speech that they had already revised last week. This was the only downside about writing, you always could improve it. If he hadn’t of left the classroom or the building when he did, Hikaru would have never gotten out of there on time and would of had to wait a whole week to get his hands on the newly printed beauty known as Carbon Grey. He doesn’t even think he could wait until getting home to read it, for the plot had already thickened and his excitement was making him bounce off the walls. He might scare small children if he tried to walk home with the newest copy in his hand. It was a semi-decent day today, a little cold but nothing he could not handle for a short walk. He was meeting his brother there, and while he wasn’t sure how Kaoru felt about the comic he had been obsessing over, they were always sure to have a good time.
Perhaps he could even get him interested and loan him the first two installments, giving Kaoru the one he was about to buy after reading it a thousand times over and looking for the slightest hint as to what came next. Hikaru had always done that with the comics and books he bought, he never wanted to leave any stone unturned. The worst of this happened when his moather had come to stay with them for a couple of days while waiting to figure out where she was going next, and upon her leave she had left one of her books on his bathroom floor. While he shuttered to think of his mother reading in the bathroom, he picked up the book and opened the first page, only to get hooked instantly. What was his mother reading you ask? Why, none other then the Pretty Little Liars series. Hikaru hated chick books, but he just couldn’t help but love this one. What was Spencer going to do? How will Emily deal with her gay struggles? He had to know how it all ended, so that series stayed on his radar for about a good two years. The pros and cons of being thorough and always needing to know how everything turns out has its ups and downs.
Finally Hikaru had made it to the front of the shop. The building was one of tattered brick with a neon sign, but to Hikaru it was as sacred as a chapel. He smooshed his face to the glass, and saw what he had been dreaming about for the past month in the window display. For a moment, he thought he felt tears well up in his eyes, “This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It’s like...Christmas in October!” The shop owner gave him a rather odd look, but said nothing about the young man’s funny behavior. Hikaru assumed he must be used to teens pressing their faces against the glass, but maybe not drooling on it.
